We are talking all about water and KIDS/TEENS today! We specifically talk about bathroom usage at school and how to still remain hydrated.
Last week we focused on teachers because it seems to us teachers say things like, “I can’t get my water in because, you know, I have to teach.” So go check out that episode by clicking here.
Today we are going to talk about how you can help your kids get their water in during the day.
How do you talk to your kids (students or own) about staying hydrated? Let us know on Instagram! @theteachermamaspodcast

Episode 28: (Interview) Interview with Kaisa Tabor! Alaska Story and Teacher Self-Care
Welcome to our second interview with one of Ashley’s best friends from Alaska! What a treat it was to interview Kaisa! Kaisa taught in Alaska for 5 years in a small village. Her experiences in Alaska have been valuable in continuing to teach now in the lower 48 states. She now teaches in Arizona. She teaches high school English and English as a Second Language. She now teaches in a district that has about 50% of the population coming from Spanish speaking families. We talk about the differences between teaching in a village in Alaska and a rural town in Arizona.
In both places Kaisa has worn more hats than just “teacher”. She has been a coach, team leader, volleyball coach. So how does she find time to care for herself as a busy educator? Kaisa Tabor has so many good idea’s and helpful tips to be able to have self-care and set boundaries for yourself, at home, at school, and with kids and their families.

Seasonal Affective Disorder is depression symptoms that happen around the same time every year - like winter! Here in Minnesota it has been dark more than light for the past few months. AND these past few weeks have mostly been temperatures below zero! This can make it hard to get sunlight and get outside - thus possibly causing SAD symptoms.
Ashley and Roberta talk about some strategies they have tried and used to combat SAD symptoms in this two-part episode! Look for part 2 next week!
If you are looking for more information about SAD the Mayo Clinic has a great article explaining symptoms and various strategies to try at home, as well as when to seek advice and help from a doctor.

We have such a fun episode for you today with our very first interview!
Ashley met Becky Kevern when they were both teaching in Alaska. We ask Becky all about her experiences teaching there, and how it compares to working in the lower 48 states. Because we are a self-care podcast, we also talk a lot about self-care. How does she fit self-care into her day/week? How does self-care and emotional health play a role in her teaching? How has the different kinds of trauma that she and her students have gone through play a huge part in needing to use self-care?
Whether you're a mom wanting to get some great tips for your own kids at home, or a teacher wanting to know a little more about Alaska, self-care for yourself or your kids in the classroom, or just want to listen to other teachers' teaching experiences this is a great episode for you!

Roberta and Ashley thought it would be fun to chat about how their most recent goals have been going for themselves. They did this not only to help hold themselves accountable; but also, to give you some good ideas for your own life and to let you know you're not alone. Accomplishing your goals doesn't always quite happen within the timeline you wished it would.
Their conversation ended up being more than they though it would as they go off into some amazing tangents on veggies and PERIODS...WHAT!? Yup, you read correctly! Come take a listen for some real chat!
